The Borderlands movie had a rather terrible opening weekend at the box office, but maybe that’s because interested fans wanted to wait to watch it on the couch at home next to their Claptrap steelbook case? If that describes you, you’ll be happy to know the Amazon-exclusive 4K Blu-ray is already discounted. You can preorder the awesome Claptrap steelbook case (seriously, it’s very cool) at Amazon for $28.89 (was $35). The limited-edition steelbook also comes with 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray discs, as well as a digital copy–just in case you want to be stuck in Eli Roth’s version of Pandora while you’re away from your Blu-ray player, too. And don’t worry, if you already preordered for full price, Amazon will only charge you for the discounted price when your order ships.
Meanwhile, Walmart has joined in on the fun with a discount on its exclusive steelbook edition of Borderlands, dropping the price from $40 to $35. Walmart’s steelbook features key art from the film, which, if you wind up not liking it (decent chance), might make you sad when you look at your shiny new case. Amazon’s steelbook case, on the other hand, could be a suitable home for the Borderlands games you love. When you gaze upon Claptrap, you can think of those happy times spent following the bot around (Gearbox’s) Pandora. See Amazon-Exclusive Steelbook See Walmart-Exclusive Steelbook

The Amazon-exclusive case emulates the roughed-up design of Claptrap, a motor-mouthed disservice droid voiced by Jack Black in the movie. On the inside, there’s some battle damage in the shape of an Eridian vault symbol, and for the special features, there’s a nice selection of behind-the-scenes documentaries detailing how the film was made. Here’s the full list, which you’ll get whether you preorder from Amazon or Walmart:
- Borderlands: From Game to Screen
- Meet the Team
- All Aboard the Death-Choo-Choo
- Bringing Borderlands to the Screen
- Badonkadonk Time
- Fashion and Action on Pandora
- High-tech Hellscapes
Borderlands 4K Blu-ray with Steelbook (Walmart)

- Borderlands 4K Steelbook Edition (Walmart) — $35 (

As you can see above, Walmart’s exclusive edition features characters from the film on both the outside and inside of the case. One other difference between the two versions is disc art. The 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray discs feature different designs at each retailer.Early reviews to Borderlands have not been great so far, with several outlets calling it a disappointing adaptation that fails to capture any of the charm from the games. Borderlands has a Metascore of 27 on GameSpot’s sister site Metacritic and has been rated 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.”For most of its length, Borderlands is just unremarkable, the sort of thing that fades from the mind so quickly that it’s actually difficult to dislike it with any real intensity,” Phil Owen wrote in GameSpot’s Borderlands movie review.
